Flagstaff - Mount Elden Trailhead Back
Getting there:
From Phoenix take I-17 North, from Sedona take 89A North, from CA and NM take I-40 to the I-17 North Exit. Once you enter Flagstaff going North, the road turns into Rt. 66 and then runs under a railroad bridge, bearing right. The next left is Rt. 180/Humphrey's St, follow that (and the signs to the Grand Canyon) N to Mt. Elden Rd. (on your right). As you drive up Elden Lookout Rd, you'll come to a "Y" intersection with Schultz Pass Rd. going to the left. The Trailhead is right there between the two roadways.
For Camping:
Follow the directions to the trailhead and continue left on Schultz Pass Rd. The pavement will end shortly at a cattle guard and become a fire road. Follow the road uphill to the next cattle guard. There's a turn in to the left right after the cattle guard which is a bumpy dirt road leading to a dispersed (free - no facilities) camping area. You can get a passenger car in there, just be careful.
