Doc Hall's
1965 Shelby GT350 R +++
Here's it's HISTORY...
I was lucky enough to locate and speak with some of the previous owners and obtained this cars
history dating back to when it was brand new. It seems this little Pony (which I call Shelby)
began its racing history almost from the beginning of its life back in the mid sixties. I spoke with a
Mr. Chris Stage (the guy who did most of the original restoration work to this car) who related the
following information to me:
Chris purchased Shelby around 1990 from a guy who had a mechanic shop somewhere in Texas.
It was sitting in the back of the shop all covered up. Every time Chris asked the guy about the car,
he would say, "Oh I plan to race it again and wouldn't think of selling it". He related to Chris that
Shelby had been a drag car almost from the very beginning. It was first drag raced with the original
289 engine and 3 speed and later on when the new 351 Cleveland engines came out, the 289 was
replaced with a highly modified 351 C running dual 4's sticking out of the hood. The shop owner
told Chris is was famous for pulling "crowd pleasing" wheel stands and violent launches off the line.
Shelby was painted with red, white and blue, stars and strips, at the time!
NOTE: Shelby still shows signs of some previously attached HEAVY DUTY, ladder
bar type plates, welded- on to the mid section of the frame rails.

Sorry this is such a terrible photo but it's the only one I have been able
to get so far of what SHELBY used to look like years ago when it was a
DRAG CAR. I'm sure you remember the old "scalloping" paint jobs
from back in the late 60's and early 70's!
Shelby spent much of it's life sitting in a garage somewhere in Texas all covered up,
just waiting for the next race.
Chris Stage (formerly of Dallas, TX- now located in Bedford, VA) eventually purchased Shelby
from the garage owner and started the resurrection and transformation into its current Shelby (clone).
The one thing I was MOST impressed with is the body and paint work. It is smooth as
glass and whoever did it, was REALLY good! The paint job is now 9 years old
and it looks like it was done yesterday.
This is near the beginning of the resurrection, back in 1995!
