1981 Honda Gold Wing 1100 Interstate

Honda comes to the RESCUE! It was the end of winter in 1988 now, I was tired of being cooped up 

all winter and I was getting the "bike bug" again!

I was visiting my parents in Shamrock, Texas and heard of a fella who had a nice Gold Wing just 

sitting in his garage and wanted to sell it. I took a ride to go see it. 

The fella opened his shed and there it sat. A Big, dark, shiny, 1981 1100 Gold Wing Interstate with  

lots of chrome and lights.... and a matching TRAILER too!

He reached over and hit the button and she fired to life. I backed it out of his shed and climbed on. 

WOW this thing is HUGE! But it sounded so good and ran smooth as a kitten. I took it for a short 

spin down his muddy driveway and was scared to death I was going to dump it in all that snow 

The day I went to get the Wing it was terrible outside. It had snowed earlier in the day but I just couldn't 

wait any longer. I told him I'd come back another day to pick up the trailer. I climbed on the Wing and 

headed for my folks's home. I bet I didn't get a 1/4 mile from his farm when the slippery Texas mud 

GOT ME! 

YEP...you guessed it. I was in the ditch along side the road. It started fishtailing, then swerving from 

side to side and gently slid off the greasy/muddy red clay road into the ditch. There I was....the bike 

laying on it's side (still running.) Don't you just hate that!

It took all 145 lbs of me, heaving, huffing and grunting to get this big machine UP before anybody sees 

me. I manage to upright it and gently accelerate to get it out of the ditch. Red mud and fresh snow flying everywhere, slipping and sliding. But I make it!

Needless to say, that was a VERY slow ride to my parents home (about 10 miles.)
