Passengers on the Eastland were, for the most part, Western Electric factory workers from the Hawthorne Plant. They were comprised of a cross-section of Chicago's ethnic cultures. Many were Eastern European immigrants or first-generation Americans of Bohemian, German, Polish and Lithuanian origins.
Well over half of the victims were single...
with the majority in their late teens and early 20's...
and predominately female.
The casualty lists presented were originally derived from George W. Hilton's book, with permission. We encourage any substantiated corrections or additions. Casualties (A-Z) are comprised of reported deaths from the Coroner, Western Electric, Newspapers and Cemetery Records. Questionable Casualties are comprised of initial reports from newspapers and estate settlements.
Survivors listed are derived from personal accounts, member relationships/recollections and other sources. Rescuers and Others includes those individuals which assisted in the rescue of survivors or processing of the victims. Our goal is to make these lists as complete as possible. Your participation in this effort is appreciated.
