This is one of our favorite campsites. It is at about 7,000 feet elevation (2120 meters) and is in the midst of the world's largest Ponderosa Pine forest. Most people think Arizona is all sand and desert. Surprise! The northern half of the state is high elevation and gets lots of snow in the winter. When the snow melts in the Spring, what doesn't soak into the ground flows downhill and south into a number of large reservoirs that supply water for Phoenix and Tucson. These reservoirs are the reason Arizona has the largest number of watercraft per capita in the nation.

I hope this one doesn't offend anyone. We are a hunting and shooting family. For that I will not apologize. This fall, we went up to our camping area and did a little squirrel hunting. We didn't have a small water jug to help clean things up and we had forgotten to stick some plastic bags in our pockets to put our game in before we left the campsite. After I shot this one, the only way to get it back to camp for cleaning and storage without making a mess of everything was to bunjee-cord it to the rack of Evelyn's bike. Kinda like tying a deer to the hood of the car (a bad practice), but on a smaller scale.

More to come later...
