SAN DIEGO – Authorities released the name today of a Linda Vista man who d ied at his home over the weekend during a violent struggle with his old er brother.
Michael Patton, 32, succumbed to undetermined injuries during last night 's domestic dispute in an apartment in the 2100 block of Garston Street, a ccording to coroner's officials.
The fight broke out about 7:30 p.m., when Patton became verbally abusive a nd argumentative toward his mother during a discussion about finances, S an Diego police reported.
As the quarrel grew "quite heated," Patton's 44-year-old brother intervene d, grabbing him and applying a chokehold, SDPD Lt. Jim Duncan said.
The mother and older brother then bound Patton's arms to restrain him befo re realizing he had stopped breathing.
They made an emergency call and did CPR on the stricken man, to no avai l. Paramedics also were unable to revive him and pronounced him dead a sho rt time later.
Homicide detectives questioned the older brother, whose name was withhel d, and plan to turn the case over to the District Attorney's Office for re view on whether criminal charges are warranted, Duncan said.
A ruling on the cause of Patton's death was on hold pending completi on of an autopsy and toxicology tests.
