Wiley Powell Jordan's pension request, #10204:
On 8 September 1902, was residing in Tarrant County, Texas.
Gave his age as 63 years old, as of 8 September 1902.
He enlisted in the Civil War in the fall of 1861 and served
until the War ended. He served in the same Regiment
as brother Charles Stewart Jordan, Company "C", Young's
12th (also called the 8th) Regiment, Texas infantry, C.S.A.
He also stated he served in Company "E". The pension
request was supported by a John H. Welch, 74 years
old on 10 Sept 1903. He stated he knew Wiley Jordan,
and that Wiley Jordan married his (John's) sister.

Claimant: Jordan, Charley Stewart Pension Number: 10500
County: Upshur
His Date of birth is given in the Confederate Pension record.
He resided in Upshur county Texas in February of 1904, when
he filed the pension request. He stated his occupation to be
that of a Farmer. He enlisted in Robertson County, Texas in
the Spring of 1861 and was discharged in the Spring of 1865.
He stated he was in Company "C". The record states that
he was a private, Company "C", Young's 12th (also called
the 8th) Regiment, Texas infantry, C.S.A, enlisted 1 December,
1861, at Camp Hebert, and that he was present for duty with
his command 29 February, 1864, the date of the last muster
roll of the company on file.

Charles Stewart Jordan died on 23 August 1908, as given by
his wife Amanda, in her Confederate Pension request on 17
September 1908.

Calvin, and Donald, all of San
Diego; four daughters, Mrs. Ev-

19 grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.

12th (also called the 8th) Regiment, Texas infantry, C.S.A.
He also stated he served in Company "E". The pension
request was supported by a John H. Welch, 74 years
old on 10 Sept 1903. He stated he knew Wiley Jordan,
and that Wiley Jordan married his (John's) sister.

are quite hard to read:

Postmarked Okemah, Okfuskee Co, OK, Mar 8, 1909:

"March th(?) 1909
Mrs Susanah Thomson. Dear Sister, with great pleasure I write you again
and tel any excuse for the long delay. I have bin in bad health the
last 3 weaks; had a very bad rising on the back of my neck is some
better now but ther is 3 more coming now one just below the old one and
a just above and I can hardly tel whether the old one is much better or
not. any way the situation is very painful. I am some what lonely.
Della an Jesse has moved to Wetumka a town about 25 or 30 miles from
hear it did not suit me to go just now there were no place for me to put
my tools for a shop without paying to much rent and then I might have to
stay there 6 months befor could work much bisness and I get rite smart
work hear and I thought I would stay with it a while longer any way I
have a pretty fair one room house about 14 by 16 feet square it costs me
one dollar an 50 cents a month rent after my trouble and expence of
fixing it up there are two other shoe shops hare besides mine but we
a(?) mix up the custom with our selves the best we can for a while yet
anyway. Well about the picture you wanted after I decided to stay hear
an keep back I had to by bedding and a cooking outfit so I could cook

in that country now I hav the Dallas news by me and it mentions good
rains in midle an Southern Texas Crops are fine in this
country...(page missing)...to get a little bad an bother me about
writing and I hope you wil excuse my delay in answering your letter
Della got a letter from Lula the other day and I was glad to read it. I
am always glad to read her letters becaus they show that she is lively

Goldie O. Allen
ALLEN, GOLDIE O., 90, of Louisville, died Saturday, February 25, 200 6, at the home of her niece. She was the former Goldie O. Warren, a memb er of AARP and the German American Club. She was preceded in death by h er husband, Donald W. Allen; and her son, James David Allen. She is surviv ed by one daughter, Jean Peters; three grandsons, Clarence Albert and Jam es Anthony Peters and Jason Allen Robey; one granddaughter, April Miche le Casey; one great-grandson, Justin Casey; and a large number of niece s, nephews and friends, including her niece, Darlene Murphy and Darlene 's companion, Daniel Meredith, who both cared for her. Her funeral servi ce will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bosse Funeral Home, Barret and Ellis on Aves., with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p. m. Monday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Cedar Lake Lodge, or T he Salvation Army.

Beatrice Skaggs Allen Kessler, 97, of Buffalo, passed away Dec. 4, 200 5, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
A native of LaRue County, she was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, me mber of Womens Missionary Union, secretary and treasurer, past member of B uffalo Chapter of Eastern Star, and a retired school teacher with 23 yea rs of service.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; James Howard Allen and Colby Ke ssler; a son, Jesse Lee Allen; her parents, Henry Blain and Viola Star Fer rill Skaggs; a brother, Joel Henry Skaggs; and a sister, Ruby Inez Merhoff .
She is survived by a sister, Thelma Chelf of Elizabethtown; a daughter-in- law, Earnestine Allen of Buffalo, sister-in-law, Lucy Skaggs of Buffalo; t wo grandchildren, Stephon Allen and Debbie of Clarksville, Tenn.; Melin da Allen Skaggs and Larry of Memphis, Tenn.; three stepchildren, Donald a nd Becky Kessler of Franklin, Harry and Brenda Kessler of Greensburg and M arylin Kessler Pruitt of Greensburg; four great-grandchildren; eight step- grandchildren; and twelve step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Billy Howell Funeral Chap el in Hodgenville with the Rev. Roger Pepper officiating. Burial will foll ow in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 6, and Dec. 7, at 9 a.m. at the fune ral home until time of service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Mt. Tabor Bu ilding Fund.
