General Notes for Child Robert Walker Warren
Grandpa Bob Warren was a farmer. He and his brothers liked liker (alcoho l) - they had stills when it was illegal. Revenuers came out and gave hi ma hard time - he got a shotgun and Grandma Warren took gun away from h im - Grandpa Warren went to jail for 2 weeks but would never tell where h is still was hidden. The Warren family came from England some years bac k. He farmed for O.L. Simms who wrote a book and talked about Grandpa Warr en.
Robert Warren supposedly lived where the Indian Marks are on the Roc ks at Paintrock.
Robert Warren and his brothers Joe, Jim John and Grundy were very honest a nd hard working drifters - most of them moved to Texas where they lived a nd were buried around Balinger.
Uncle Jim was born with a club foot - he was a half-brother to Grandpa War ren. Uncle Jim shot and killed a man who made fun of his club foot. The Sh eriff ran Uncle Jim out of Kentucky. Jim went to Texas, then to New Mexi co where he put his still right against the highway to sell booze.
All of the above according to an interview Gary Clendenen conducted with A da Clendenen in the late 1970's. Leslie Warren married Uncle Jim Warren 's son. She lived at Box 835 in Artesia, New Mexico.
